International Conference on Digital Archive of Cultural and Scientific Heritage Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

As natural and human-created calamities lead to the perish of invaluable cultural heritage, the need to use advanced technology to preserve national treasures ultimately increases. Placing importance on the digitization and archival of culture and heritage has become the focus of many nations in the world. Its place is set in the cultural agenda to facilitate the preservation of diverse cultural heritage for the future generation and provide ubiquitous online access to digitalized content to be appreciated by all.


This cultural and scientific knowledge that is stored and presented in the electronic form has become a crucial integral part of each nation’s digital archive. It has given rise to a new digital age of new forms of scholarly and scientific inquiry. To overcome the risk of losing valuable cultural and scientific resources there should be an increased awareness on the importance of archiving and preserving Asia’s cultural and scientific heritage. Indeed, there is a dire need to develop a long-term plan for nations to cooperate and foster the sharing of scientific knowledge research and technology.



Conference Objectives:

  • To gather and create a network of experts on digital archival work.

  • To establish an international platform for future cooperation and exchange of cultural and technical expertise.

  • To address the need for common standards and procedures in the collection and preservation of Asia’s diverse cultural heritage from both humanities and technical aspects.

  • To initiate a web-based information forum as a platform for discussion and communication on work towards digital preservation of cultural and scientific heritage including standards and criteria for digital repositories, policies, and guidelines for the selection of resources to be archived.


Topics to be covered include but not limited to:

  • Standards and best practices for research and scholarly discussion

  • Online portals and networks

  • Exchange of descriptive information and metadata on digitised and digitally-created archives for joint portals and gateway

  • Provision of necessary infrastructure for long-term preservation and access to digital resources

  • Long-term storage of digital resources and protection of digital data loss


Target Audience

The conference is addressed to international specialists, scientists, librarians, enthusiasts, stakeholders, organizations, experts and policy-makers in culture, politics and science.
