Malaysian Research & Education Network
HISTORY
The establishment of the Malaysian Research and Education Network (MYREN) began during a Cabinet meeting held on 30 July 2003 where a decision was reached to offer Malaysia as the Southeast Asian Regional Center for the Trans-Eurasia Information Network (TEIN / Asi@Connect) research network and develop a local research network namely the Malaysian Research and Education Network. MYREN was officially launched in March 2005 under the 8th Malaysia Plan (8MP) and managed by the Ministry of Energy, Water and Communications until June 2009. After that, the management of the MYREN project has gone through several transitional phases in several Ministries as follows:

MANAGEMENT TRANSITION
Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) was appointed by the government in 2004 as a MYREN project implementing agency for a period of two (2) years until 2006. MDEC’s function as a MYREN project implementer was subsequently expanded as a project manager and consultant in 2006 for a period until 2015. MDEC is also tasked to monitor and maintain the MYREN network through the MYREN network operations center (MYREN NOC) based at the MYREN Point of Presence (POP) data center in Cyberjaya since 2005. In addition, MDEC also takes on the role of running programs technical training for the MYREN community and also as a ministry representative for international cooperation. The management of MYREN NOC was then transferred to MYREN Network Sdn Bhd on a contract basis starting in 2018 until now
